The “March 2025 Meme Drought,” alternatively known as “TikTok Great Depression March 2025,” saw an uprising trend throughout the month of March. TikTok users declared that no new memes were to be created in March.
On March 10, a user named @goofangel posted a TikTok saying that it’d been “nine days into March, and we haven’t had a single original meme.” This post went viral and led other users to create related videos.
Users created posts that mimicked major historical events such as the 1929 Great Depression. One user also posted: “How it feels to send bro TikToks during the great meme drought of 2025.”Although the first few days of March were unproductive in meme production, memes like ‘Nah she got you blushing twin’ as well as ‘Dating a GM’ have broke the unofficial rules as they gained popularity throughout the month.
