Matthew G., a 7th grade student at Day Creek Intermediate School, has only been playing the piano for four years, but has already been invited to play at Carnegie Hall in New York City four times.

“Well, my friend inspired me to play piano,” said Matthew. “My friend invited me over to his piano lessons because he thought it would be something cool for us to do together.”

Matthew G. has performed at Carnegie Hall four times. “[I performed] in Weill Recital Hall,” he said. This hall, Weill Recital, has 268 seats.

“It was frightening at first because of the big audience, but then after that I got used to it,” said Matthew. He is an experienced pianist that has played many complex pieces.

Some people wonder how individuals like Matthew get the opportunity to perform at such sophisticated concert venues like Carnegie Hall.

“I had to win big international competitions,” Matthew said. “I had to either win first or second.”

Matthew has placed first place at the International Piano and Strings Competition 2016 and won the 2015 Steinway Society Festival Competition. He also won second place in the International Competition of Romantic Music 2014. Furthermore, he won first in the Middle Division A of the John Child Walker Music Competition. He was a 2015 Los Angeles Young Musician International Competition Finalist.
Matthew is living his dream and has created a blossoming musical career at such a young age.
