Astronomers have discovered seven earth-like exoplanets orbiting a nearby star named TRAPPIST-1. According to Fox News, three of the seven planets are “in the habitable zone”, meaning they may contain liquid water and might be able to harbor some types of life. Estimates of their masses indicate that these seven planets are rocky and not gaseous like Jupiter, said CNN. At the news conference announcing the discovery, Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator of the Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarter, told others, ““The discovery gives us a hint that finding a second Earth is not just a matter of if, but when.” As said on Fox News, Zurbuchen called this discovery a major step towards answering the big question: is there life on other worlds?
